Adult and Community Education Policies
FEES / TEXTBOOKS
Fees are due at the time of registration. Fees do not include textbooks or supplies unless noted. Checks, cash (exact) and credit cards (VISA or MC) are accepted.
Please make checks payable to Monroe #1 BOCES. Required textbooks will be available for purchase in the Adult Education office on the day a course is scheduled to begin.
REGISTRATION
Monroe #1 BOCES is committed to providing an accessible learning environment consistent with its obligations under applicable state and federal laws. Students who have questions regarding the availability of accommodations, such as interpreters or other assistive devices, should contact the director at 585-383-2265.
Enrollment in all classes is limited.
Registrations are not transferable.
Adult Literacy
These classes are free to those who qualify. There is a $40 non-refundable registration fee each academic year. Age requirements for the different programs vary by program and location due to funding. Orientation and individual assessment are required to determine eligibility.
Career Training
Any person 18 years or older who has a high school diploma or GED may apply. Orientation and individual assessment are required to determine eligibility. Costs for programs starting after July 1, 2009, are subject to change.
REFUNDS
If a student is unable to attend a career training program a full week prior to the start date, 100% refund of tuition payment is given. If student stops attending a career training program after the start date, no refund is given and the student or funding agency owes the full tuition amount.
Community Education
Any person 18 years of age or older may register. Students are registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Instructors are subject to change without notice. Unless otherwise notified, you are enrolled at the time you register and payment is received. No registration confirmations will be mailed.
REFUNDS
Refunds are only given:
• if the student cancels at least one week (five business days) prior to the first night of class.
OR
• if Monroe #1 BOCES cancels class due to lack of enrollment.
The Monroe #1 BOCES Business Office will issue refunds in the form of a check. For Community Education courses, if the registration was paid for with a credit card, a refund can be made directly to that same credit card. A Community Education textbook is only refundable if it was purchased online at the time of registration and has not been received or if it was included in a course fee, that course is canceled, and the book has not been received.
SCHOOL CLOSINGS
Local radio stations will announce cancellations due to weather conditions. Class will always be held if an announcement is not made.
SMOKING
New York State law prohibits smoking on school grounds at all times, both inside and outside campus buildings. This law will be strictly enforced.
SOLICITATION RESTRICTION
Information or advice provided by instructors is not considered as information or advice endorsed by the District. Monroe #1 BOCES has imposed certain restrictions and guidelines on the activity of instructors regarding solicitation of business for personal or corporate benefit. The District cannot and will not monitor classes to make certain that instructors comply with these restrictions and guidelines.
