Monroe #1 BOCES Professional Development Center, located at 15 Linden Park, Rochester, NY, offers cooperative staff development workshops, for educational professionals throughout the region, for teaching strategies and techniques, how to use new technology, and on the new statewide initiatives in curriculum and assessment. Our workshops for K-12 staff and administration, promote best practices, innovative instructional strategies, technology integration and interdisciplinary teaching.

The Professional Development Center advocates for practices that ensure the continuous learning of all students and staff, working with consultants at the local, state, and national level. Teachers, administrators, and students directly benefit from professional development opportunities for in-depth understanding of curriculum.

The Center consists of the Professional Development Department, the Special Education Training and Resource Center (SETRC), and the Teacher Center. The goal of BOCES Professional Development Center is to develop and present outstanding staff development training for our component school districts, as well as for our staff. Through BOCES, school specialists of many types can network with cultural institutions, colleges, community organizations, and national speakers. Sharing services can mean substantial savings on budgets and deliver more effective school management.

The Special Education Training and Resource Center (SETRC) supports the implementation of NYSED/VESID’s goal to prepare students with disabilities for lifelong success. Locally, SETRC serves over 48,500 students, of whom 5,900 are students with disabilities.

The Teacher Center provides systematic, ongoing professional educational services to teachers in the region.
