Adult Education Students Host International Festival Fundraiser

ESOL students host international fair fundraiser
|
The Adult Education ESOL classes at Monroe #1 BOCES held several fundraisers over the past few months to support the Central Asia Institute (CAI). CAI helps build schools for girls and boys in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
In August, nearly 100 adult students from the ESOL classes held an international luncheon, with door prizes, a silent auction and demonstrations of ethnic dancing. Combined with an earlier ice cream social event, the group raised $650. The funds were donated with the designation of paying the annual salary of one teacher ($600) and the purchase of a teadle sewing machine with supplies ($50).
In addition, starting in February, the high school students in EMCC's Visual Arts class designed and created bookmarks that reflected quotes from Greg Mortenson, who began the CAI. The bookmarks were sold to adult education students and staff and raised $213 for CAI.
