Special Education Services

Each year, Monroe #1 BOCES helps thousands of individuals, from newborns to adult students, achieve success and improve the quality of their lives by coordinating more than 80 programs and services that support individuals as they discover their learning potential, in an environment that benefits all students.

We offer a full range of special education programs, from special schools to support for full inclusion in regular school settings.  To learn more about these programs, please click on the links on the left.

Children with disabilities have a tremendous ability to learn; they just learn differently. BOCES 1 offers a full range of special education programs for preschool through age 21, from special schools to support full inclusion in regular education settings. Our special education programs strive to provide districts with cost-effective options that meet the needs of students with disabilities and expand the opportunities offered by individual school districts.

Special Education offers intense programs that serve high-needs students. In addition to our classroom teachers, students are helped by other support professionals, such as crisis intervention specialists, teaching assistants and aides, school nurses, social workers, and psychologists, to meet their needs and challenges. Also, itinerant services, as requested in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), are provided to supplement each classroom program and meet the needs of our districts.
