The purpose of the Celebrities in the Schools program is to provide a variety of authors, illustrators, and storytellers for school visits. These visits are designed to motivate reading and the enjoyment of literature in the schools. The presentations range from large assembly settings to individual classroom visits. Writing workshops are often featured. Schools have the opportunity of choosing between a variety of local authors as well as nationally known names. All member districts are surveyed to determine the selection of authors that are invited each year.  Costs for the visits are shared among component districts, thus making these visits more economical for members.
