Urban-Suburban students recognized as Outstanding Seniors
Two Urban-Suburban students were among the 41 graduating seniors in Monroe County recognized in the televised event.
Jacob Kingsley and John Rodriguez were honored during this year’s Dr. Michael C. O’Laughlin Outstanding Senior Recognition Program. Named after long-time educator Dr. Laughlin, it honors his commitment to students and amazing ability to motivate and connect with them.
Jacob Kingsley is a senior at Irondequoit High School who is taking the Automated Manufacturing and Machining program at EMCC.
Monroe One District Superintendent Dan White explained Jacob is an honor roll student, a National Technical Honor Society Inductee, and a three-sport athlete who plays Varsity football and runs indoor and outdoor track.
When he is not playing sports, Jacob enjoys building models, reading, and biking. Jacob has been involved with his school’s literary magazine, is a member of DECA, and has helped with the Special Olympics.
Jacob also received the Urban-Suburban Academic Excellence Award, which honors students who have a 95-100 average in all four core subjects.
After he graduates, Jacob will work for a year as a machinist before he enrolls in college for engineering. Jacob may play football in college, but his future goal is to coach the sport in some manner.
John Rodriguez also received the Urban-Suburban Academic Achievement Award, which honors students who have a 90-94 average in all four core subjects.
John Rodriguez is a senior at Sutherland High School and was selected by Superintendent Pero as one of Pittsford Central School District’s 2021 Outstanding Seniors.
Superintendent Pero explained John’s personal style exudes kindness and generosity.
Throughout the pandemic, John worked as a Patient Care Technician at Rochester General Hospital. He is known for his passion for equal rights and social justice.
John is an active member of the district’s Diversity Club and was a Roc2Change event organizer.
