East Irondequoit student creates assembly focusing on cultures, respect
Mariah is a fifth-grader at East Irondequoit CSD, where she is a member of the Student Culture and Climate Committee.
Mariah and the other students on the committee created an assembly that focused on the various cultures at her school, Durand Eastman.
The classmates on the committee created the entire assembly by themselves and presented their work to the entire school!
The Durand Eastman Student Culture and Climate Committee focuses on what they can do to create positive energy and how the school can improve.
The groups address topics like respect and differences. Most importantly, the meetings teach students to be civic-minded and actively participate in their community - a life lesson they will carry with them long after they leave Durand Eastman.
