Shelley’s Closet serves Monroe One community

Shelley’s Closet clothing bank serves students, staff and their families throughout Monroe One BOCES. Now student-run, Creekside students volunteer at Shelley’s Closet, located at Bird/Morgan School, up to two times a week. Student volunteers sort and categorize the donations by style and size to prepare the clothes to go out to students and staff. The students also inspect the clothes for cleanliness, holes and tears to ensure quality clothing is available for those in need.

Shelley’s Closet hosts pop-up shops at different programs and Fairy Godmother events, which offer formal wear for spring dances. Students and staff can shop the available clothing and bring them home free of charge. Last year, Shelley’s Closet served over 20 families. “We’re looking to partner with Monroe One programs to hold additional events,” said Creekside School Associate Teacher Lisa Magguilli, “so more people have access to the clothes at Shelley’s Closet.”

Shelley’s Closet hopes to provide Monroe One families with a variety of clothing options for every season. They accept donations year-round and are currently in need of:

  • Men and women’s winter coats in all sizes
  • Men’s sweatpants in larger sizes
  • Men’s gym shorts in larger sizes

Clothing donation boxes are available for your gently used or new items at all Monroe One BOCES program main offices.
