EMCC students participate in NYSSBA Convention

Eastern Monroe Career Center (EMCC) students attended the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) Convention on October 24-25 at the Joseph A. Floreano Riverside Convention Center. EMCC students from the Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts and Visual Communication and Photography programs shared their experiences and information about their programs at EMCC’s booth in the Student Showcase.

“It was great to have the opportunity to interact with different people to learn more about why they are so passionate about their organizations,” said Jill Galanti, EMCC Criminal Justice student. “I also got to tell them my passion about the Criminal Justice program at EMCC."

During the convention, students had the opportunity to network with people from other schools and organizations. A highlight from the convention was Visual Communication and Photography students connecting with representatives from the New York State School Counselor Association (NYSSCA). The students are now working with NYSSCA on a real-life design project.

"I enjoyed being able to go behind the scenes and see all the products that could potentially be in our schools one day,” said Lynessa Patterson, EMCC Criminal Justice student. “It was also interesting to speak directly with our District Superintendent and Board of Education members. I got to form a connection with people who I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to meet."
