It’s a tradition spanning a decade; teachers cooking up breakfast for students just before winter break. One day a year, Joe Alati’s collision shop turns into a casual diner. He brings in breakfast and opens the doors for students and graduates to stop by. They talk shop, catch up, and dig in.
Chase Herrgesell graduated from the Collision Repair Technology program last year and stopped by, saying it was fun to see everyone and catch up.
“If you’re still in school you get to come out of class for a little and celebrate together,” said Herrgesell.
He described it as an awesome experience when he was a student and he could meet graduates at the yearly breakfast who had jobs in the field he was pursuing.
His former classmate, Devin Shaw, agreed.
“I come back as many times as I can to this breakfast. Alati taught me, and they were two years of great times. There were a lot of great times in this shop and it’s weird not being here every day,” said Shaw, who graduated in 2018.
He added that the breakfast was inspiring when he was a student at EMCC and it made him appreciate his time there, quickly becoming a favorite holiday tradition for students.
