Focusing on staff wellness at Bird/Morgan

The Bird/Morgan School recently held a grand opening of its new staff wellness lounge. While schools across the country continue to embrace mindfulness and wellness for students, Bird/Morgan is also looking at how to create the same opportunities for staff members.

This school year, a staff wellness committee was formed to find ways to create balance during the school day. Their first goal was to plan a dedicated space available for staff to take a break and engage in relaxation activities.

On Jan. 16, their plan came to fruition with the brand new staff wellness lounge. The peaceful place is a room featuring a sound machine and water feature along with ambient lighting. Throughout the room are different areas for mindfulness and relaxation; including yoga mats, sensory and fidget materials, a foot massager and comfortable seating.

Principal Ellen Howe reflected on the reaction staff members had when seeing the re-purposed space, saying “at Bird/Morgan we want to focus not only on student needs, but on the needs of the amazing staff supporting them every day.”

At the grand opening, staff members were excited to see all the room had to offer, with the school anticipating the room will get a lot of use.
