Custom Chevy El Camino Wins 2025 Classic Car Show
We have a winner from the 2025 Monroe One BOCES Classic Car Show! This year’s Choice Award went to Ray May for his custom-built 1956 Chevy El Camino — a car that never existed in Chevrolet’s production line. Mr. May designed and fabricated the unique vehicle himself.
The Choice Award was voted on by Monroe One students attending the show. Mr. May received the honor from Mr. Ogultekin and his Automotive Trades class, who organize and host the event each year.
The Classic Car Show is a favorite tradition that brings together students, staff from across Monroe One, and local car enthusiasts to admire a standout lineup of vintage and specialty cars.
Once again, this year’s show featured vehicles from GVACS (Genesee Valley Antique Car Society), The Corvette Car Club, The Street Machines of Rochester, Gone Cruisin’ Car Club, and the Mazda Miata Car Club of Rochester. Several Monroe One staff also participated, and the Automotive Trades shop car earned a spot in the show.
We were also joined by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Brighton Police Department, who brought out their vehicles — along with K9 Officer Peak.
The event was a true team effort. Automotive Trades students registered car owners, tallied votes, took photos, and helped with setup and cleanup. Monroe One’s Operations and Maintenance team prepared the lot and directed traffic. Many staff members from Multi-Occupational and FOCUS and Eastern Monroe Career Center supported the planning and logistics. Participation certificates were provided by the Imaging Center, and the Choice Award trophy was 3D printed by Mr. Shufelt and students in the 21st Century Tech Skills program.
Thank you to everyone who made this event a success — and congratulations to Mr. Ray May!
