Coming Soon! Early Childhood and School-age Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Centers.
You are receiving this communication to inform you about a new and exciting partnership. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of Special Education (OSE) is creating a new network of support focused on enhancing services and supports for students with disabilities ages birth to 21. This new network will be called the OSE Educational Partnership.
Within the OSE Educational Partnership, there are 14 Early Childhood Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Centers and 14 School-age FACE Centers distributed regionally across New York State. The Early Childhood and School-age FACE Centers are designed to support parents and families. Parents will be able to obtain direct assistance from, and use the resource and referral services provided by, these FACE Centers. Parents and families will also benefit from collaboration between the Early Childhood and School-age FACE centers and other members of the OSE Partnership as they work with community partners, public schools, approved preschool and school-age programs. This work will focus on promoting meaningful change within the educational system, creating collaborative school/community relationships, and providing information and training on literacy, behavior, transition, specially designed instruction and equity. Additional information regarding this initiative is available on OSE’s webpage. NYSED will be providing additional information about the Early Childhood and School-age FACE Centers in the coming months. Until June 30, 2019, parents may continue to contact the Early Childhood Direction Center (ECDC) or Parent Center in their region for assistance.
As we transition to the services under the new OSE Educational Partnership, we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and families that our Special Education Quality Assurance (SEQA) Western Regional Office is here to help you. Within the Western Regional Office, Regional Associates are assigned to work with specific school districts and special education programs in your region. Each Regional Associate oversees preschool and school-age special education services, and serves as a resource to parents, school district personnel and private providers. If you have questions about special education or have a specific question about special education services for your child, you may contact the Western Regional Office at any time via email at SEQA@nysed.gov or via phone at 585-344-2002. Parents may also contact NYSED’s Office of Special Education via email at SPECED@nysed.gov or via phone at 518-4732878 (School-age Policy), 518-473-6108 (Preschool Policy) or 518-486-7462 (Program Development and Support Services) for general questions about special education in New York State.
