Description

BOCES will provide Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education (CRSE) resources to participating districts. The DEI/CRSE resources service will provide guidance, best practices, and training on developing and implementing district policy and practices on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Definitions from Regents Call to Action:
- Diversity:
Includes but is not limited to race, color, ethnicity, nationality, religion, socioeconomic status, veteran status, education, marital status, language, age, gender, gender expression, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, genetic information, and learning styles. - Equity:
The guarantee of fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all while striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of all groups. - Inclusion:
Authentically bringing traditionally excluded individuals and/or groups into processes, activities, and decision/policy making in a way that shares power and ensures equal access to opportunities and resources.

CoSer Responsibilities

Base Service
- In-district planning to lead and assist district leadership team with any of the following:
- Identify, coordinate, and/or deliver professional development on DEI/CRSE strategies and implementation
- Provide school board-member workshops and training
- Work with district personnel to incorporate the NY State Board of Regents DEI/CRSE Framework into curriculum and other classroom/virtual learning
- Develop DEI strategic plans
- Review/revise district policies, procedures, and protocols with an equity lens
- Develop metrics to measure and monitor progress in DEI/CRSE implementation and ensure continued adherence to local policies
- Analyze various data sets (i.e. student achievement, suspension, course enrollment, etc.) to identify strengths and areas for improvement relative to equity
- Develop structures and programs for recruitment, hiring, mentoring, and retention of diverse faculty and staff
- Develop a plan to engage the community to foster and sustain an inclusive culture
- In-district planning to lead and assist district leadership team with any of the following:

Enhanced Service
- All aspects of base service
- Collaboration/partnership with BOCES DEI Administrator
- Regional DEI PLC meetings
- Provide school/grade assembly services or other educational opportunities for students
- Access to DEI shared resources
- Opportunities to participate in regional grants
- Access to consultants when BOCES does not have qualified employees available (Consultant fee charged separately). The specific purpose needs to be stated. Leadership and supervision of educational affairs should rest with BOCES staff.
- To the extent that school faculty is released for a DEI/CRSE COSER program in-service training, substitute costs can be aid eligible
- Regional school board professional learning on DEI content
- Provide a shared DEI Officer to districts (additional cost for 0.6 FTE or less in district)
- Support the work outlined in the commitment to equity letter signed by the Superintendents in 2020
