About Teaching and Learning
Monroe One BOCES has developed a Continuity of Learning Plan for the 20-21 school year to ensure that students participating in hybrid and/or remote instruction at any point during the year have clear and accessible opportunities for instruction aligned to NYS Learning Standards.
All instructional models will be facilitated by appropriately certified teachers, except where otherwise allowable under the Commissioners regulations or education law.

Parent Resource Guide
Prior to the start of the school year a program specific parent resource guide will be distributed to all parents and district partners.
- The parent resource guide will provide specific information on program schedules, instructional models, updated procedures and protocols.
- It will also contain contact information for all key staff members including emails, phone numbers and directions to access learning and school management systems.

Professional Development and Planning
- Professional planning sessions will occur in the summer months to prepare for the reopening of school with a specific focus on bridging learning gaps and prioritizing learning standards, key understandings and skills necessary for student success.
- Additional areas of focus will include multi-tiered systems of support and student engagement in hybrid and remote instructional models.
- Professional development needs will continue to be assessed to ensure timely access to professional learning opportunities for all staff.
- Areas of initial focus will be instructional technology, standards based practice and supporting the social emotional well-being of staff and students.
- As Monroe One BOCES prepares for reopening, we will provide multiple staff only attendance days prior to students' arrival to plan and prepare for the 2020-2021 school year, including reopening in an in-person, hybrid and fully remote model.
- As we prepare to reopen, all staff will have opportunities to engage in relationship/community building and will be provided information on supports available during the transition.

Curriculum
- K-12 instruction will continue to be aligned to NYS Learning Standards and Monroe One BOCES designed curriculum.
- K-6 Instruction will have a specific focus on literacy, mathematical practices and social studies/science standards. Additionally, specific time and instructional focus will be given to the arts.
- Grade 7-12 instruction will provide rigorous learning opportunities both inperson and by virtually engaging with a teacher in programs that are in a hybrid or remote model. Additionally, students may participate in completing online modules or tasks to meet the requirements of a course.
- All instructional staff will integrate SEL curriculum modules into their weekly instructional plan as well as design and deliver developmentally appropriate learning activities on health hygiene and social distancing etiquette.
- K-12 instruction will continue to be aligned to NYS Learning Standards and Monroe One BOCES designed curriculum.

Career and Technical Education
- Career and Technical education programs will prioritize work-site placements for students needing hours to meet graduation requirements or CDOS exit credential requirements.
- Flexibility for work-based learning hours, internships and co-ops will allow for hours to be earned in a remote or hybrid model where allowable. In-person clinics will be considered on a case-by-case basis with COVID protocols in place.
- Community and industry partnerships will continue to be fostered and specific health and safety protocol will be communicated prior to students participating in any internship or clinical sites.
- All program approval, data reporting, grant and civil rights requirements will continue to be adhered to.
- Career and Technical education programs will prioritize work-site placements for students needing hours to meet graduation requirements or CDOS exit credential requirements.

- Grading practices will follow a standards-based framework designed to provide direct feedback regarding students’ mastery of standards/content.

Student Engagement
We recognize that in order for students to learn, grow and remain connected to our school community, regular and substantive interactions with students must occur.
- As outlined in the Monroe One BOCES Continuity of Learning Plan, all teachers in collaboration with their supervisors must develop a schedule that provides the above to each student.
- Additionally, instructional staff will work with parents and other providers to remove any barriers to student engagement that may exist.

Physical Education
- Monroe One BOCES recognizes the positive benefits physical education and activity have on a student’s physical and emotional health.
- As such, providing opportunities for all students to regularly engage in physical education and activity under the direction of a certified physical education teacher has been identified as a priority in all instructional models.
- While students are participating in physical education in person, all Monroe One BOCES programs will plan and monitor for strict adherence to the NYS Department of Health guidelines.

Athletics and Extracurricular Activities
- Extracurricular offerings will be reviewed individually prior to the start of the school year.
- Offerings will only be made available if we are able to strictly adhere to all DOH guidelines.
- We will make every attempt to offer activities that can be conducted virtually.
