Monroe #1 BOCES offers Driver and Traffic Safety Education (DTSE) programs in collaboration with the Brighton, Fairport, Penfield, Webster and West Irondequoit school districts. Currently enrolled high school students that have or will have their driving permit upon registering for a program are eligible. Students from these districts interested in taking the DTSE program must do so through their district of residence.
The Drivers Education program provides classroom theory and in-car driving experience, with an emphasis on safety and defensive driving. Students successfully completing the program receive the following:
- Prelicensing Certificate (MV-278)
- Student Certificate of Completion and Insurance Eligibility for Insurance Reduction Certificate (MV-285

NYS DMV TEENS Service
Click "Parents" then "Monitor my teen driver (TEENS)" for information about the TEEN Electronic Event Notification Service (TEENS). TEENS is a voluntary free service, offered by the DMV, aimed at keeping parents and guardians of teen drivers involved and informed about their teen's first years of driving.
