Model Schools
Model Schools provides districts with support to integrate technology...
...into curriculum as a tool to improve student achievement. Services are provided through high-qualified instructional technology specialists -- teachers who know how to enhance learning through technology. Through Model Schools, teachers, technology coordinators, and administrators enhance their technology literacy via regional workshops, webinars, online professional development, customized in-district support. Model Schools also encourages networking, sharing of best practices and envisioning of future technology uses regional events.

Customized Training
Our Instructional Technology specialists keep abreast of what is currently on the horizon in the field of technology integration. They design and implement in-district training customized to district’s individual technology and instructional initiatives.

Staff Development Reimbursement
Districts may submit and be reimbursed for expenses related to Model Schools sponsored professional learning such as costs for substitute coverage when teachers attend Model School sessions, stipends paid to teacher-trainers for staff development sessions offered through Model Schools, or stipends paid to teachers for participation in Model Schools activities held outside the regular school day. Instructional Technology SpecialistDoreen Pietrantoni is an Instructional Technology Specialist with the Professional Learning Team at Monroe One BOCES. Doreen’s Model Schools experience includes instruction coaching, technology integration, online learning specialist, 1:1 implementation specialist, distance learning project creation and facilitation, STEAM and STEM initiatives, Digital Citizenship Certified Educator, G-Suite Level 1 & 2 Certified, and Office 365 Certified. Doreen comes to the team with five years of teaching experience grade 1 - 8 and twelve years as an Instructional Technology Specialist. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Canisius College and is currently working on her Education Leadership Master’s Degree from Stony Brook University.

Kate Rice
Instructional Technology SpecialistKate is an Instructional Technology Specialist on the Model Schools Team at Monroe One BOCES. Kate joins the team with a robust resume of K-12 teaching experience. She has a strong background in purposefully and strategically integrating technology into her teaching practices and assessment plans, and has supported teachers by leading professional development offerings centered around; transitioning to remote instruction, the ins and outs of the learning management system, and making learning engaging and interactive with technology. Kate used her technology and English expertise to write a complete 7th and 8th grade enrichment curriculum focused on digital literacy and service learning. Her timely and steadfast support she provided her colleagues along with her development of the enrichment program, landed her with the 2021 Teacher of the Year award in her previous school district. She comes to us having earned her B.S. in Inclusive Education with an English concentration and a Master’s in Education Technology from Nazareth College, along with a Master’s in Library Science from St. John Fisher College. She is a NYS Certified Library Media Specialist and Education Technology Specialist with additional certifications in grades K-12 in special education and English language arts.
