The Driver Education program consists of 24 hours of in-car instruction and 24 hours of classroom instruction. Successful completion requires attendance in all scheduled sessions and a passing grade of at least 65% on the final written and driving skills test. Students who successfully complete the program will receive the MV-285 Certificate. This certificate makes licensed student drivers eligible for a senior license at age 17 as well as reduction of insurance premium.
Students register for the course in their individual school district. Each district determines when and how they choose to register students.
