MOF students create step-by-step training video
A video project in the works since March 2024 is complete and ready to help you create your own kennel blanket. Students in Digital Media Arts and Communications recorded a video showing the Consumer and Family Science students making the blankets. They then edited the step-by-step guide.
This Multi-Occupational/FOCUS collaboration has been seamless; much like the blankets the Consumer and Family Science students make for Lollypop Farm. The project also has multiple layers.
The programs explain it best:
“How to make a Simple Kennel Blanket Out of Fleece” is a training video to help students make a kennel blanket. The training video was the idea of Lisa Magguilli, Associate Teacher in the Consumer and Family Sciences program at Monroe One.
“The kennel blanket project was born out of a class discussion about the plight of the cats coming out of a hoarding situation in Penfield. Students wanted to help, so I suggested we contact the Small Animal Care class to see what would be helpful. Leslye Maholick, (teacher of Small Animal Care at Lollypop Farm), suggested the blankets, so we got right to work searching the internet for instructions. We made over 30 blankets,” said Magguilli.
“We have been actively seeking opportunities for our classrooms to collaborate with each other on community-facing projects. Natural times of collaboration give our students a chance to work with other students and see what other classes are learning. We are working hard to build a sense of community among the students in our programs,” added Magguilli.
“The kennel blanket training video project was certainly a challenging one for us,” said David Striks, teacher in the Digital Media Arts and Communications program.
“We were excited to collaborate with Consumer and Family Sciences as it gave us a chance to do some original voice recording of their students reading the script and then recording the steps needed to match the script. Training videos help you to produce a quality product the same way every time,” says Striks.
