In addition, vision consult service is required for the Teacher of the Visually Impaired to communicate with classroom teachers about material adaptation needs.

VISION:
This is an assessment of how a child is using his/her vision in a functional manner. An ophthalmological report is required to address the medical condition specific to each child. The Vision teacher will determine the effect of visual loss, reduced acuity and/or visual field restriction on the student's ability to use instructional materials. Service and/or educational strategies will be recommended as necessary.
ORIENTATION & MOBILITY:
This is an examination of the student's travel skills in familiar and unfamiliar indoor and outdoor environments. Students are assessed using their visual skills, concept development, and low vision aides related to intermediate and distance tasks.

An auditory processing evaluation is a comprehensive, two part, multi-disciplinary evaluation. It is administered by a licensed educational audiologist and licensed speech/language pathologist. The battery of tests has been specifically designed to assess fundamental auditory input skills and identify areas of deficit that can lead to or be associated with difficulties in more complex auditory, language and learning abilities. An individualized report will include: test findings, a glossary of terminology, educational implications and recommendations that are specific to the profile the student exhibits. Recommendations are given for environmental modifications, compensatory strategies and remediation. Evaluation team members are available for a one hour follow-up meeting upon request.

It includes a review of records, observations, interviews, assessment of language development, general academic performance, and social-emotional status. Recommendations are made regarding teaching strategies, support services and placement in order for students to gain access to instruction and participation in the school environment.
Recommendations for support services for deaf or hard of hearing students may include; Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing services, sign language support or instruction, Educational Interpreting, Signing Skills Coach support, Captioning, Notetaking or Cued Speech Transliterating.
The assessment for non-verbal students may lead to a recommendation for sign language instruction, Signing Skills Coach service, or other educational supports in order to provide access to instruction and communication.

Signing Skills Coaches work 1:1 to assist students who use visual communication and have other disabilities. The Signing Skills Coach helps students develop the skills necessary to participate in the classroom. Under the direction of the classroom team, the Signing Skills Coach also provides support for a student’s BIP, hygiene needs and/or other attentional needs. Tutoring for Special Education Programs provides special education certified tutors for individuals or small groups of students. Eligible students include those who have medical issues or disabilities which prevent them from attending school, who are suspended from school, who require additional individualized instruction or who are awating a placement. Academic assignments and materials are provided to the tutors by the referring school district staff. Tutoring services can be delivered at the student's school or alternate school setting, at home, at a hospital or other community location.
